Ask questions with mentions, models, and citations
Chat is the main way to work with your documents and connectors in AINexLayer.
Open a chat
- In your workspace, click New chat (or use the chat that opened after login).
- Type your question in the composer at the bottom.
- Press Enter / Send to submit.
Past conversations appear under Chats and Recents.
Ask good first questions
Overview
- What is this document about?
- Summarize the main points.
- What are the key recommendations?
Specific
- What does the document say about [topic]?
- List the requirements mentioned for [area].
- When are the deadlines?
Analysis
- Compare section A and section B.
- What risks are called out?
- Pros and cons mentioned in the content?
Use @ mentions
Type @ to open the mention picker:
- Files & Folders — retrieve from a specific document or folder
- Connectors — prefer a connected service or native scraper
- Chats — bring another conversation into context
Without a mention, the agent still searches your workspace knowledge when relevant, but mentions make intent clearer.
Models
Use the model selector in the composer to pick Auto or a specific enabled model. Choose Manage models to open Workspace settings → Models, where you connect providers and assign default roles.
Citations
Answers can include numbered citations. Click a citation to open the source panel and see which document or URL supported that part of the reply. Use citations to verify facts before sharing them.
Tips
- Be specific; include names, dates, or section titles from your files.
- Ask follow-ups instead of restarting when refining an answer.
- If the reply is generic, mention the file with
@and confirm it finished processing. - For live Slack/Google/etc. answers, connect the service under Connectors, then
@it in chat.
