Getting Started
First Steps
Core concepts and your first actions in AINexLayer
Core concepts
- Workspace — Container for related documents, chats, connectors, and settings. Switch workspaces from the icon rail on the left.
- Documents — Files in the Library panel. After processing, they are searchable by the chat agent.
- Chat — Conversations at New chat. History appears under Chats / Recents.
- @ mentions — Type
@to point the agent at a file, folder, connector, or chat. - Models — Choose a chat model in the composer, or open Manage models under workspace settings.
Step 1: Land in your workspace
After login you land on the dashboard, then your first workspace’s new chat (or an empty state to create one).
Step 2: Know the sidebar
| Area | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Workspace icons | Switch or create workspaces |
| New chat / Chats | Start and reopen conversations |
| Library → Documents | Browse uploads and folders |
| Connectors | Link accounts and native scrapers |
| Automations | Recurring agent jobs |
| API Playground | Run native scrapers and inspect results |
| Workspace settings | Models, team, system instructions, and more |
Step 3: Add knowledge
Upload from Library → Upload Files or from the composer + menu. Wait until processing completes before asking detailed questions.
Step 4: Ask and refine
Start broad (What is this document about?), then narrow (What does it say about deadlines?). Use follow-ups; the agent keeps conversation context. Open citation markers to verify sources.
Step 5: Point at sources
Type @ and pick:
- Files & Folders — focus retrieval on specific documents
- Connectors — prefer a live tool (for example Slack search)
- Chats — reference another conversation when relevant
Best practices
- Keep each workspace focused on one project or team topic.
- Prefer clear filenames so
@mentions are easy to find. - If answers look generic, confirm documents finished processing and try mentioning the file with
@. - Use Workspace settings → Models if the wrong model is selected or a provider is not connected.
Next: Upload Documents or Your First Chat.
